Surprised at the negative reviews. It's not a 5-star dining experience but perfect for lunch and a casual dinner. The fried pickle chips and buffalo shrimp are cooked perfectly. Lunch prices are competitive with the area and the decor is pleasing. The menu selection appeals to just about everyone. Definitely worth a visit

Dirty! This place was super dirty. And I am not a clean freak. The table hadn't been wiped. The booth seat was ripped with stuffing coming out AND hadn't been wiped of crumbs. There was a thick layer of sticky dust on the windowsill next to us. There was a very large sticky puddle under our booth so we moved to another booth (that ALSO had ripped seats and crumbs). No big deal. Restaurants have spills. I get that. But when we left 45 minutes later, no one had yet cleaned the spill. And it was 5:30pm. Still very early, half-empty. There were only 5 tables full in the whole inside. Plenty of staff. No one cleaning. The bathroom was disgusting. Not "just-happened" disgusting. It was "hadn't-been-actually-clean-in-a-long-time" disgusting. One toilet broken and overflowing. One sink didn't work. The other sprayed all over you. Floor was black in areas and a little greasy (?). I always wonder - if the bathrooms are that bad, what's the kitchen like? Food was ok. Not great. It was a burger and fries. Undercooked. Server was pleasant. But the whole dirtiness had me rushing to get out quick. I had high hopes. Don't bring your kids.

Overall, not bad. Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. The bartender was taking care of 4-5 parties at the bar plus it seemed she had some outside tables. She seemed to be doing the best she could but there were a lot of other people standing around. Plus, one of the waitresses ran right in front of me almost knocking me over when I first arrived. Not overally impressed with the staff. I ordered a chicken tenders bucket. Good chicken, GREAT french fries. Nothing impressive here but it serves it's purpose.

Went there last night with a friend that was here from Ohio. We were celebrating her birthday. We were very disappointed. I ordered the fish and chips. She ordered the ayce shrimp. It took them a while to bring the food out and the protein portions were pathetic. They brought us so many fries, it looked like a five pound bag on our plates. The manager tried to make up for our disappointment and that was very nice. He told us he would put an order of shrimp for her, which then came with even more.fries. my impression is that they are trying to fill customers with the fillers so that one doesn't notice how stingy they are with their.protejns.

I have been here twice for lunch and regretted both times. Once could be a fluke but twice is a pattern. Clue #1 Get a hostess. When there is no hostess to direct you to a seat, give you a menu, take your drink order, and inform your server he/she has new diners, you know your service is gonna suck. It leaves you wandering the floor looking for a clean table and then waiting at said table until someone notices you and deigns to give you a menu. Clue #2 Frozen crab cakes always suck, no lets expand on that...frozen seafood sucks. Manager/Purchaser, why are you buying frozen seafood? Don't you know I.C. Sharks is just a mile away? Their restaurant has fresh offerings. Clue #3 Train your servers. Slow, lackadaisical and unmotivated, my service experience sucked. I asked for fried dill pickle chips (not bad to be fair) and pasta primavera. I did not ask for the added chicken on the primavera, though that is what was brought to my table and what appeared on my bill. My ceaser salad never arrived despite waiting 55 minutes for my entree. Servers...actually listen to the order, bring the items requested and bring them in the proper order. The first time I ate there I got the clam chowder...it was delivered alongside my entree rather than earlier during the time allotted for the soup course. Once again I never got the promised salad. Both times I went there my iced tea glass remained empty through much of the meal. Clue #4 Upgrade the chef, watery Al Fredo sauce is not "up to the required standard", the pasta was not too far beyond al dente though...I will give them that. Clue #5 Don't post fake reviews on Yelp! Marilyn W. you must be a server at the Pelican, if you found "the wait staff ... excellent - friendly and quick to please".

Needed some seafood and it seemed like a good time to check out the Pelican since I used to frequent the old neighborhood Tick Tock Restaurant. When I entered, I noticed a smell; a combination of fish and old cooking oil - not pleasant - but I decided to stay. The remodeling included a new bar and outdoor seating area; some paint and I think some new tables, but everything else looked pretty much like the Tick Tock. I must the wait staff is excellent - friendly and quick to please. I had a couple of starters: Mussels in garlic/wine sauce. It was the strangest concoction, not really bad, but not delicious - a thickish sauce and served with two large slices of garlic bread which was good on the grilled sides but soft on the bottom, like a sandwich bread. I also ordered the Grouper on a bed of onion straws. Again, a strange presentation. The dish was loaded with onion straws which were tasty, but the Grouper was deep fried on a skewer. It was difficult to get a piece of the fish off the skewer because it was cooked perhaps a tad too long. But I did finally manage to get a piece off - it was hot and didn't taste too bad. Not what I was expecting. I guess I over ordered so I asked for a box to take the remainder home. When I got into my car, the fish had cooled a bit and OMG - my car started to smell really bad. I opened the windows until I could find a place to dump the box. I will not return to Pelican as it did not meet my expectation. The bar was active so I guess if you want to hang out at a bar, it's probably a good spot but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

Came in on a weeknight not sure what to expect. Located right off of 4th St and parking is not that plentiful. Live music outside on the patio area- cool. Big bar area to the left when you walk in. Lots of seating scattered around. Kinda funky smell where we were seated, like dirty mop water. Not pleasant. Friendly staff, our server was very nice and came to check on us multiple times. Food was very good. We ordered conch fritters, my son had the wings with garlic fries, and a crab cake dinner for me. Conch fritters were good. Not very greasy (thank goodness) and came with sloppy sauce. Not sure what's in the sloppy sauce but it was good. My crab cakes were delish! Two plump crab cakes and for my two sides I picked broccoli and mixed veggies. Even balance of crab and breading. Very big dinner, I was able to only eat one and saved the other for lunch the next day! The wings were AMAZING. We got bone-in, naked with BBQ sauce. Very crispy and the sauce was awesome. 10/10 would order wings again. He also loved the fries- garlicky fried goodness! Overall, good experience. Will have to come back for maybe a wings and beer night with the hubby.

Stopped in to grab some lunch. We noticed a very strange smell that greets you at the door. Not entirely sure what it is, but it's not very welcoming. Thankfully it didn't follow us to our table. The decor makes you feel like you are way closer to the beach. Today's lunch special was the Best Burger, a 1/2 lb cheeseburger served with chips and a drink for $6.95 (the drink could be draft beer also). My co-worker thought it was a good burger and a great deal. I tried the salmon lunch which came blackened with rice and broccoli. I was pleasantly surprised with my choice. The salmon was very fresh and the portion was bigger than I expected for lunch. The rice and broccoli were also good. All this for $8. Not a bad deal. My other co-worker had the grilled mahi sandwich. Also very fresh and good portion size. They advertise $5 rum runners, so might have to come back during non-work hours!

First visit here, definitely has a fishy smell, on the verge of being overwhelming. Blue crab dip appetizer: some of the chips were stale but the dip was good and the portion was more than I expected. Crab Cake Dinner: two cakes and two sides. He chose garlic fries and coleslaw. The slaw was very good, fries were epic and the cakes were very tasty. Could have more crab, less cake for the price. The dinner should have been a few dollars cheaper for what we got. Fisherman's Platter: Large helping of fries, and they were amazingly good! I went with fried clam strips-nice size portion scallops-I got three and they were mediocre shrimp-grilled and got 4or 5, average white fish-I chose blackened and was disappointed at how over cooked it was. It was tasty but if they had cut back on the fries and lowered the cost a dollar or two it would have been a good deal.

I know.. it's like a novel. But you should read it before you decide to eat at Sloppy P on 4th ST. Review of Sloppy P New location Got groupon BECUZ we always went to the st.Pete beach location & enjoyed it, went to new 4th st location with my mom, 4pm on 2/4/15 Ordered strawberry banana daquiri, overheard the bartender tell waitress that they didn't make have banana daq mix, so I was surprised when she brought out a daquiri. Tasted & looked like straight strawberry. Told waitress it didn't have any banana in it and she said "oh well she put banana in it, that's probably as good as it's gonna get." Waitress also told us they only had bud & bud light on draft, when in reality they had 8 different beers on draft which I noticed when I walked by the bar. She also could not make any food recommendations for us. The food: ordered clam chowder, side Cesaer, and the Nantucket bucket (seafood boil, about $28) . Everything tasted wonderful but the seafood in the bucket was a joke. Clams were smaller than a penny & crab was so small could hardly get any of the miniscule amount of meat they had out. One of the three, also small, mussels was not open and therefore could not be eaten. We are Floridians and we know what normal sizes of these crustaceans are. Manager came out said he would yell at the kitchen, we told him that was unnecessary as the food was cooked fine, but the teeny tiny portions were extremely disappointing. He tried to tell us that prices have gone up for the seafood. We are local. You can buy snow crab for $7.99 a pound literally around the corner at the grocery store. Also little necks for $8/doz individually. A bag of 50 for $15, retail prices. Then the manager never returned the rest of the meal, which was especially rude considering he told us he would" see what he could do to make up for it" and and THEN we saw him out in the alley smoking cigarettes and chatting with some neighborhood kid. Sorry but we won't be returning. I'm sure this place will be out of business soon due to tiny overpriced portions & horrible service. I'm extremely unhappy with this experience and will be seeking a refund from Groupon.

Not a good experience here. Walking in the place is clean and newly remodeled buy smelled badly. Shrimpy. Got past that and ordered a stella draught...served in a proper glass so that earns 1 star right there. Ordered some wings and crab dip. Waitress comes back to say they're out of crab dip. Ok..he wanted onion rings anyway so im game. we latet heard another wiatress saying they were out of crab cakes. Rings came out quick. They were barely golden. .but crisp..and the blandest rings ever. How is that possible? On to the wings. We ordered 10...9 were flappers 1 drummy..and it was deformed and gross. Took one bite of a flapper to find it uber greasy. ..seriously bland. ..and salty. Not good. Waitress askd how is everything so I tell her. She offers to take it off the bill..said no...mr iron stomach with me will eat it but im not about to. Stilll hungry...because I did come to eat...I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with swiss...chips on side. Manager stopped by to discuss the wing issue and we reiterated how bad they were and the deformity that should have never been served. He was very kind about it....said he'd speak with the kitchen and make sure it didnt happen again....as well as offering to oversee that my sandwich came out right and bought our beers. Even stopped by to make sure sand sandwich was good....and it was .quite good..nice and hot too. Chips are basic ruffles. Two stars bevause of stella...The manager and the chicken sandwich. Couldnt possibly rate them any higher.

I was going to give it three stars because of the draft beers and the seafood itself. The service was also friendly and attentive. But unfortunately I won't be inclined to rush back. Mahi does not need cheddar cheese all over it for any reason. Although the seafood seems fresh there isn't anything interesting, special or even really delicious about the dishes. Pretty much bar food. Ok if that's what you're going for. Also, the location is a little odd although they do have outdoor seating - a plus in my book- but what really tipped the scales between two and three stars was that the bathrooms were really nasty. Sorry, Sloppy P, we won't likely be back. Too many better places on 4th for the same price!

50 cent is in the hizouseeeeee! Legitimately. Bartender is awesome by making drinks for the whole bar. (Only bartender today & she is killing it!!) Too bad.. the patrons barely talk and just stare into your soul.. making it awkward to enjoy a $8 dollar 32 oz. Rum Runner!

Tl;dr review: Good service, ok food, ok prices, nothing special. I've driven by this place many times and the parking lot was always full and decided to give it a try after stumbling across a Groupon ($20 for $40). We came by on a Friday night around dinner time and the parking lot was full. We managed to find a spot, came in to a full restaurant, and we were quickly greeted and seated. Our waitress was also very quick to greet and get our drink orders. I had a beer, which was cold, girlfriend ordered the $5 rum runner, which was served in a styrofoam cup and tasted like cough medicine or one of those Four Loko drinks. It wasn't the best tasting drink, but not the worst I've ever tasted. For food, see breakdown below. Buffalo shrimp: A little bit on the oily side, but tasted decent. Fisherman's Platter: The French fries and shrimp were good, clam strips were too oily, and white fish and scallops were decent. Grouper Tacos: Girlfriend said they were good and she would come back again for them. To comment on other reviews, the place did have a slight smell of fish/shrimp, but not overbearing. The men's bathroom wasn't gross, just not a place where I'd want to spend anymore time than I had to. Overall, the service was good and food was decent. The place draws a crowd, but just not a place I'd go back again. As another reviewer mentioned, there are other places nearby with similar prices that I would choose over this place.

Ahhhhhhh and now the sloppy pelican is closed. Hmmmmmm. I wonder why. With the shitty service food and atmosphere not so surprised. Hopefully the new restaurant going in will be better. I guess anything is better then that Crap Shack!

Ordered dinner for take out on multiple occasions. The crab pretzel and crab dip was flavorful and amazing! The bacon black and bleu burger is also a must try. The shrimp Diablo was cheesy with the perfect amount of spice. My co workers and I are obsessed with this place. Thanks to them our dinners at work are so much more satisfying.
